FLESH STUDY
“Flesh Study” explores the complicated and often contradictory relationship I have had with my breasts. At times, I considered removing them entirely; at others, I exaggerated them, yet still felt insufficient. This tension reflects broader pressures placed on bodies read as female, where breasts become a focal point for sexualization and perception. In this piece, I distort their familiar form into something deliberately unsexy and unsettling, resisting the expectation of desirability.
Using silicone breastplates, typically worn by drag performers, I draped them into a warped configuration of the body, inspired by the radical distortions of Leigh Bowery. I then encrusted them in rhinestones, referencing the excessive, almost absurd cultural fixation on and oversexualization of breasts.
